Revise with God-sight

by Christina Hubbard

Revising often halts my creating. I rewrite, reword, delete whole sections, and even restart completely. I’ve lost good work because my inner perfectionist could not be satisfied.

But revision is not meant to keep us from sending our work into the world, it is meant to make something better. If we look at revision as the shaping of our craft, not a striving for near perfection, we come close to God’s intention through the gift of creativity.

When I started writing my recent book Pray A to Z: A Practical Guide to Pray for Your Community, I was certain God had picked the wrong person for this idea. I asked Him, “Couldn’t you find someone more eloquent, someone with a bigger following or more influence?” He very clearly whispered in my ear as I prayed, “No one would do this exactly as you would. No one would pick the topics and tell the stories like you will. And this is what I want.”
Friend, you are what God wants. Your life, just as it is. Your voice. You. Go write, create, and follow Him.
